So Allie and I mapped out this route that would take us all over the city to a bunch of different thrift stores, but let me tell you now: we only really ended up hitting one. Ragorama, this bomb place in Little Five Points that we hit up yesterday but didn't have time to fully explore because we had to get to the play. Today, however, we explored. Yesterday I bought a light denim blouse with this white embroidery along the neckline. Super cute and under $10. Today I was really bad and bought three things: a khaki colored military-style vest; a patterned, silky, partly leopard print short sleeved blouse; and a pink and orange purse I'm sort of obsessed with. I could have bought so many other items but I tried to show restraint!
After thrifting we picked up Jess and ended up grabbing dinner at Mellow Mushroom, where vegan pizza awaited me! This time I got the same thing as last week but instead of sundried tomatoes I got fresh avocado on top of the tempeh, vegan cheese, and spinach. Sooooo good. Even though the air conditioner was on full blast and we were shaking the entire time.
After dinner our goal was to go to the movies, specifically "Silver Linings Playbook," however we were essentially turned away at the door because it was some sort of special sneak screening that you needed to RSVP to? Pretty awkward considering they were advertising it on their website, Fandango, and on their marquee. We were bummed but found another movie at a different theater down the road that looked good.
So we went for a scenic drive through downtown Atlanta to take in the pretty lights until the new movie showtime. Then we grabbed candy at CVS and loaded up our purses with the illegal contraband. Our new movie was "The Sessions," a really weird sounding movie that's been getting a lot of recognition at festivals this year. Here's the (very weird) synopsis:
"John Hawkes plays Mark O'Brien, a man in an iron lung who decides he wants to lose his virginity. After consulting with his priest (William H. Macy), he gets in touch with Cheryl Cohen-Greene (Helen Hunt), a professional sex surrogate."
While it sounds kooky it ended up having so much heart and made us laugh and cry. And John Hawkes was really really good. Definitely look this movie up!
Then we came home and put on "Runaway Bride" while I helped Allie make some jewelry. I forget if I've mentioned this yet but Allie works primarily as a jewelry designer and sells her beautiful pieces at a string of boutiques here in the south, online, and at trunk shows. She's super talented and I totally envy her and respect her for going after her career. So I helped string beads for her and we cranked out close to 40 bracelets. We also watched a couple episodes of Absolutely Fabulous which was actually really funny.
All in all it was a super awesome day: thrift store shopping, vegan pizza, the movies, and a classic romcom? My idea of heaven.
Well I'm off to snuggle with two of cutest purrrrrbabies I know. Night!
P.S. feeling philosophical lately. Here are two quotes I'm really digging:
