Day #3: Animal Shenanigans and The Return of Caesar (NYC)

It's getting late and apparently I'm incapable of staying awake past midnight these days?! Weird. But here's a condensed look at how I spent my Friday in New York:

Wake up, get ready, eat b-fast, hop on the subway, head to the Bronx, and meet Sophia's mom and sister Gianna. Then, being the eight-year-olds that we are, Sophia, Gianna, and I went to the zooooooo!

The Bronx zoo is actually really nice. It was a beautiful, albeit brisk, day and we lucked out by it not being too crowded. We saw almost all of our favorites, including tigers, giraffes, an okapi, a red panda, and note adorable walruses. One of them just had a baby a few months ago, and one of the zoo employees told us that it was at night while someone was having a wedding on the zoo grounds, just feet away from the walruses! Talk about a memorable wedding, huh?

After the zoo we said goodbye to Sophia's fam and headed back to the apartment, where we collapsed and made dinner plans. The winning restaurant was Terri, a vegan cafe in the flatiron district. The one downside was the lack of available seating at the cafe, so we took our food to go and brought it back to the apartment. Let me tell you - DELICIOUS. I got a green smoothie (which I couldn't help but slurp on for the whole ride home) and a side of quinoa salad, and Sophia got a strawberry mint lemonade and a side of bean salad. The sandwiches? We got two and split them: vegan "chicken"caesar salad wrap and vegan buffalo "chicken" sandwich. OH. MY. GOODNESS.

For two girls who haven't had caesar salads and buffalo chicken in a looooong time, we were embarrassingly giddy. We followed up our dinner with the first three episodes of Partners and a showing of Rear Window. You can't say that we don't have varied tastes!

All in all it was a fun day. Tomorrow's our last full day here so we're going to try to squeeze everything else in that we haven't done yet. Until tomorrow!
