Day #5: Girl Talk, Wenus Touching, and Charles (NYC)

So today was my first changeover of the trip. I'm so used to visiting people and then not wanting to leave them and get back to my real life, so it's somewhat off putting to be moving on to such great destinations and so many people that I'm excited to see. I didn't want to say goodbye to Sophia because we've been having so much fun this week, but at the same time I was super excited to see the NYU girls.

This morning was spent packing, breakfasting, and recovering from our post-Girls hangover. I said goodbye to Sophia and the awesome apartment we've been staying in and I hoisted my duffel into my arms and bravely headed towards the subway.

90 blocks later, I was back at NYU and sweating in the surprisingly high temps. After yesterday's frigid AM walk, it was a little bit weird. Granted, the SUV strapped to my arms didn't help matters.

So I'm staying in an NYU freshman dorm with my friend Shelby, who's an RA there this year. It's funny being back in the dorms. Shelby and I immediately picked up where we left off, like some of the best friendships do, and dove into a major catch up session, followed by lunch around the corner at Red Bamboo. Then we sat in the park for a while and talked, that is until we were caught in the middle of some very unfortunate family dynamics:

Family #1: mom and dad are openly fighting, mom talks about moving out, dad throws a wad of cash at her, she stomps away, he keeps looking to see if she's coming back. And all the while, during the breakup of this family, their adorable little boy is just trying to toss a football around with his dad. Heartbreaking.

Family #2: man with a neon yellow beard carries a two year old to a tree, where he pulls down the boy's pants and holds him in his arms. The boy, while being cradled in the man's arms, butt facing down, is then prompted to take a shit. I'm sorry WHAAAAT?! After five minutes of this the boy is released and proceeds to go off on his own and squat in the grass, pooping some more. So weird.

After a Marisa Tomei sighting, we headed back to Shelby's dorm and hung out until she had to leave for work. I then proceeded to hang out for a bit, catching up on some emails and scarfing down Air Heads like the classy lady I am.

Around 8pm I headed out to meet Anna, Emily, and Vic at a bar near their apartment. Anna and Vic were my roommates freshman year, and Emily is Anna's sister, and we all lived (along with Shelby) in the same dorm that year. It was so great to be with these girls again. Vic was a little bit tipsy already when I showed up, and let me tell you, tipsy/drunk Vic is hilarious. We kept an eye on the Cardinals game and proceeded to have a fun night of laughing. Shelby met us once she got out of work, and was greeted by Vic's bubbly personality. Lucky her!

Around 11:30 we walked Vic back to her apartment, where she regaled us with a description of her landlord: "I love him. And I love very few men." atta girl!

Now I'm back with Shelby and ready to pass out, hearing the familiar sounds of a freshman dorm at NYU once again. Who knew I would miss this. Night!
